Equestrian Pre-registration

Please pre-register using this form if you are planning on bringing a horse to the Emprise. This is separate from pre-registering for the event, helps us plan for horse capacity, and helps to connect equestrians with heralds and artisans.

The Emprise of the Black Lion is all about pageantry. And with the Emprise being a camping event this year, we are encouraging all participants to be a part of that pageantry by connecting artisans and equestrians before the event to make pageantry happen at the event.

When you pre-register your horse now, you will see two options intended to help you develop these relationships to make that pageantry happen:

An option to “have the Herald-in-Charge contact you to help you secure the services of a herald”
Do you currently employ a herald, who speaks for you while you are accoutered and performing noble deeds on the equestrian field? Every noble should have a herald. If you are not employing a herald yet, or if you aren’t sure where to start, the Herald-in-Charge for the Emprise can help you develop that relationship with an interested herald.
An option to “have the A&S coordinator contact you to help connect you to artisans that are interested in creating pageantry”
Pageantry is the lifeblood of the Emprise. You, on a horse, covered in a caparison displaying your arms, with your banners flying in the wind, establishing your presence on the field and increasing your wordfame. OMG YES! But so many things! And these things take time to make, and require artistic talent, and it can be hard to get started. If you don’t have all of these things yet, let our A&S coordinator help! We are seeking equestrians entering the tournament at the Emprise who would like to develop relationships with local artisans interested in making pageantry happen. Our A&S coordinator can help connect you with these artisans.

Riders must also bring their SCA equestrian authorization cards (or printout equivalent). Contact your local group if you aren't authorized yet.
