Ride Before a Prince

In his 1559 treatise on horsemanship, Federico Grisone described how young noblemen should "ride before a prince", showing off the expert training required of a knight.

Other writers in the 16th and 17th century also described many patterns to train the kind of movements needed for mounted combat.

In this portion of the Emprise of the Black Lion competetion, riders will:

  • Prepare a three to four minute presentation of these historic figures
  • Fill out a form to declare the movements in order
  • Perform these movements in an 80x80 foot space before our esteemed judges

Riders are encouraged to refer to Annisa's How to Ride Before a Prince handout for historical ideas and inspiration.
