Lance Games
Competitors will demonstrate their historic joust training skills to the assembled judges:
Demonstrate your precision picking up a ring:
- As a joust training exercise, the ring stand will be placed over a tilt barrier, so all riders will need to carry their lance in their right hand to retreive the a ring on their left side.
- After retrieving a ring, riders should place it in the bucket provided, and proceed to their next pass.
Show your precision and follow-through striking the quintain
- The quintain will be placed over a tilt barrier, so riders will need to carry their lance in their right hand.
- The quintain has a horseshoe in the center of the target, impress the judges by striking directly withing the horseshoe.
Show your technique again by breaking a frangible tip lance against a breaking quintain
- The quitain will again be placed over a tilt barrier
- Both foam and wood lances will be available
Demonstrate your partnership with your horse on the tilt when faced with an oncoming opponent (without lances)
- As with all the above games, your horsemanship goals should include: a quiet start, a steady pace down the tilt, a controlled halt at the end
- This will have the added complexity of another horse in the oncoming lane, so that you can demonstrate your partnership with your horse in a simulated jousting situation.
- This pass will not include lances, but feel free to ride with the reins in one hand and mime the levee with the other.
