Noblesse Oblige prize tournament at September Crown

MEG device - the Madrone populace badge (fieldless, a madrone tree proper) within a chamfron

Good people of An Tir,

On Sunday of September Crown there will be an equestrian Noblesse Oblige prize tournament, brought to you by the Madrone Equestrian Guild.

In this game we are all assumed to be of noble rank, as indicated by the titles we may hold, the manner in which we conduct ourselves on the field, and our ability to armor and accouter ourselves and our horses. Some of us have greater resources than others, some have amassed considerable word-fame by our deeds and skills, and some of us are known for our generosity whether in materiel or in spirit.

We invite all riders to consider the worth of their noble personas and bring a prize reflecting such worth. Let each rider determine for themselves what prize would represent an appropriate gift from a noble of their rank and stature.

The Noblesse Oblige prize tournament will then run as follows:

  • All riders wishing to participate in the tournament will contribute the prize they consider to be an appropriate gift for a person of their rank and stature.
  • The rider achieving the highest score in the tournament will gain... the satisfaction and word-fame of having achieved the highest score of the tournament.
  • The rider with the lowest score of the tournament may choose any prize they like.
  • Subsequent riders, proceeding from the lowest score to the highest, will choose from among the remaining prizes.

Lest those of great skill be tempted to false modesty, we will have those skilled in both song and verse standing close to immortalize the deeds of the day.

Keep in mind, however, that the "worth" of a prize often has very little to do with its monetary cost. The best prizes can be the products of your own hands, talents, or the products of your talented friends. The most sought-after prizes might also be a service provided, a meal prepared, a class taught, or an event enabled.

All authorized riders are welcome to compete. Impressive displays of heraldry and/or period turn-out will earn additional points throughout the tournament. At 10 a.m. the tournament will begin with entrants announcing themselves and presenting the prize they are contributing. Riders will choose their preferred games or equitation challenges from among several options, each with the same potential for points. The final points will be awarded for answering correctly a test of equestrian knowledge, in the form of a trivia question from the set of questions listed at http://www.funtrivia.com/quizzes/animals/horses/horse_mix.html

Whether you intend to show off your exquisitely trained riding palfrey or demonstrate your skill at arms on your fierce destrier, we look forward to taking the field with you.
